La novela El Trabajo de Aníbal Jarkowski, es una sintesis de esta época de la lteratura argentina. Si por un lado ofrece el tematicas propias del realismo como es la noción de trabajo y desmpleo durante una crisis, por otro lado ofrece concentradas experimentaciones literarias.
El Trabajo se situa en un tercer tiempo que intenta, y en algunos pasajes lo logra, tomar situaciones sociales no para reproducirlas sino para activar en ella modos de poder pensarlas, y concentrarse en una serie de experimentaciones narrativas, algunas que solo transitan recursos ya existentes y en otros casos, como los dialogos, resolver de manera nuevas.
Martín Kohan en una crítica a la novela de Jarkowski decía que se nutre de la sensibilidad social de Boedo y la sensibilidad artistica de Florida. Es cierto, por momentos ambas sensibilidades se cruzan y a veces se opacan, pero tabién se alternan. El lenguaje austero, ceñido y un tanto frío no pierde expresividad para narrar y se mantiene en un estado enajenado.
